The speaker at last Friday’s CreativeMornings/Portland was Corey Arnold, a photographer and Alaskan commercial fisherman. For seven years he worked as a crabber on the Bering Sea and more recently, he captains a wild salmon gillnet boat in Bristol Bay, Alaska. The off season is filled with travel, gallery exhibitions, magazine and ad photography assignments mixed with a bit of backyard gardening, cat maintenance, and skateboarding in Portland.
He is currently working on a life long project entitled FISH-WORK which chronicles the commercial fishing lifestyle throughout the world. His work has been exhibited internationally and published in The New Yorker, Esquire, The Paris Review, Rolling Stone, Outside, National Geographic. Corey has appeared on Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch and has published a book with Nazraeli Press entitled Fish-Work: The Bering Sea. Above are just a few of his photos, captured on such trips.
Find out more about the event here. Looking forward to watching the talk.
