Josh Kenyon and Colby Nichols of Jolby were the speakers at this December’s CreativeMornings/Portland. The design duo spoke on three unspoken principles that make it possible for them to collaborate and create as fluidly as they do.
Check out their absolutely awesome slidedeck above, as well as some of the takeaways below:
Be as open and honest as you can.
No sugarcoating.
Communicate often and honestly.
Squash your beef.
If a situation comes up, solve it together as a team.
Confront the problem then and there, so you can solve it and move on.
Otherwise, if you bottle up your emotions, they will only derail other important projects further down the road.
Communication in any collaboration is the first step in the process.
Most projects fail because of a miscommunication.
If we set up an environment that we’re open to listening to anything that might come up and we’re willing to listen, then the end product of our collaboration is just so much greater.
Trust each other in everything that you do.
Critique is important, but..
Don’t be a dick.
Ride the weird.
If you take risks, they can pay off.
Never miss an opportunity to push a project further.
It takes a lot of hard work to do this, but the reward of collaboration is incredible.
