November’s Global Theme is “Bravery”

image

This November, we’re excited to announce our theme of “Bravery.“ The theme was chosen by our organizer Blake Howard and the Atlanta team and animated beautifully by fabulous Stewart Scott-Curran who created our monthly illustration.

Bravery is a word that evokes strong emotions, visions of courageous actions and bold examples of heroism. But bravery can take many forms and talks this month reflect that. Featuring powerful stories from speakers like Lumír Němec, former leader of Czech Special Operations Group Prague to Mike Tippett, Director of New Products at Hootsuite Vancouver, the talks this month cover the topics of gall to gut.

In Pittsburgh, artist Vanessa German, founder of "Love Front Porch” will be speaking on how she took a stand after hearing 21 consecutive gunshots in her neighborhood and, in Moscow, journalist Linor Goralik will be talking about her collaboration with a foundation that supports designers who create clothes for disabled people.

To find an November event near you, check out creativemornings.com, or follow your local chapter on Twitter. As always, free tickets are available starting the Monday before the talk.

We’ll see you there!

Makeshift Society is a community for creative freelancers and independent workers. They have a clubhouse in San Francisco, CA where people work, take classes, attend events and collaborate on projects and now they want to bring it to Williamsburg!

The speaker at last August’s CreativeMornings/Atlanta was Stewart Scott Curran, Art Director at CNN.com.

Stewart developed an interest in design early in life and remembers being especially obsessed with the typography and layouts of his father’s folk music albums. From Glasgow to Amsterdam, Holland to UK, Stewart forged a path working with companies like Nike and Coca-Cola before eventually coming to Atlanta to be an art director at CNN.com.

This is an excellent talk for all creatives, as Stewart tells a fantastic tale of his personal and professional journey. If that’s not enticing enough, you can watch it for the Scotsman’s excellent accent.

Check out more of his work here.

Many thanks to MailChimp for sponsoring, The High Museum of Art for hosting, and, of course, Station16 Creative for videography.

“Stewart gave a really inspiring talk at Atlanta’s CM a few months back about his life/career path so far.

Watch it here: vimeo.com/50135398

He even snuck in a Joy Division reference. Long live Ian Curtis.”

You can check out more of Timothy’s excellent notetaking skills in his Flickr album.
